New York: Day 4

Updated: May 26, 2020

Thursday... exploring Central Park, the MET Museum & the Empire State Building.

Today I wore: an oversized jumper as a dress (New Look) with tights, my Off-White belt, the same boots as previously mentioned, the huge Topshop Borg coat, and my Carvella bag.

Of course, our first stop of the day had to be Dunkin' Doughnuts for breakfast...

Walking through Times Square I came across this bus and loved the graphics instantly. Clearly the brand's marketing scheme wanted to stand out - and they certainly did. This bright pink, fluffy looking print with a big interactive screen on a bus window.. definitely captivating WHILST being on the move around one of the world's busiest cities.

After browsing some stores such as Sephora and TJ Maxx, we headed over to the Columbus Circle area. I had remembered from my last trip to New York, that I had eaten the best sushi in my life from the Whole Foods store in The Shops at Columbus Circle mall! It is safe to say that the 6 year wait was absolutely worth it as the sushi was so incredible (I'm actually salivating just thinking about it 🤧). I opted for the 'shrimp tempura roll' after much debating, and it was delicious. Christy also agreed with me as she bought cucumber maki and wontons. Mmmmm.. easily the best meal of the trip!

We spent aaaages wandering around Central Park. The weather was perfect, neither cold nor hot, and the park itself was almost empty! It really did feel like a scene from a movie, being able to explore the peaceful spots on our own, in the middle of this bustling 24 hour city.

Next, we thought it made sense to visit the MET museum as it is located at the end of Central Park, on the Upper East Side.

* insert another Gossip Girl moment on the MET steps with my gurrrls *

I've always loved Ancient Egyptian history, so we visited this exhibition first and were in awe of the building itself - never mind all the artefacts! I've visited Egypt twice myself, and it's interesting seeing the history preserved at museums on the other side of the world.

The main reason we wanted to visit the met is so we could see the "In Pursuit of Fashion - The Sandy Schreier Collection" exhibition.

"A remarkable treasury of fashion history"— Vogue
"The exhibit is as good as a Willy Wonka factory for fashion buffs."— Fashionista

The MET's website says the exhibition features "promised gifts from Sandy Schreier, a pioneering collector", who has gathered one of the finest private fashion collections in the USA, over the last 50 or so years. The exhibition itself explored how Schreier accumulated a collection of twentieth-century French and American couture and ready-to-wear outfits and accessories - not as a wardrobe, but in appreciation of this form of creative expression.

It was a very beautiful exhibition which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was interesting viewing garments made by brands such as Balenciaga and Christian Dior, comparing them to how they've now developed.

My favourite painting which I saw is the one pictured above. It is called "Resurgence of the People" -2019, and I am going to do another post just dedicated to it, as it is simply amazing and so captivating.

After the MET, we stopped for some pizza slices for a cheap dinner, then walked the whole way back to the hotel, this took about 45 minutes.

The above ad for Balenciaga's new collection was probably my favourite ad I spotted. It stood out as the model is wearing a balaclava and you cannot actually tell who it is.

For the evening I wore: a black polo neck, an oversized Collusion hoodie (ASOS), black jeans, boots and my borg jacket again.

There are actually no words to describe how cold and windy it was at the top of the Empire State this night.. we visited at 12am so it was extra quiet, but forgot that it of course is January and would be freeeeeezing 😂. Because of this we could hardly stand and take good pics, but I definitely managed to get a few. It was the first time I've been up the Empire at night and the views were just incredible!
