Linking Words to Images

In today's seminar we were set the challenge of being given three separate, random words and being told our outcome of the task was to create a moodboard, to link images to the words.
I was given 'orange', 'escape' and 'calm'. My initial response was positive as I have always associated orange with being a calming colour, and of course an 'escape' can be linked to calmness through religious escapes / retreats.
To create the moodboard I firstly brainstormed all initial responses from the each word, then further googled synonyms of each. After having a large collection of responses for each word, I then looked at the obvious connections such as: monk = religious = calming nature, their dress code = the colour orange, their lifestyle = often a retreat for men needing a lifestyle change. From this I gathered images that stood out visually, largely from Pinterest. The use of a monk got me thinking about asian culture, and lanterns sprung to mind as a friend I met travelling has a picture on her Instagram consisting of Vietnamese lanterns through a street at sunset (🤩). Naturally then, I had to look for intriguing pictures of sunsets, and so I found one through the use of art makeup! I also really loved this picture as I myself only tend to wear orange toned eyeshadows. Finally, as fire/a flame was a stand out connection for each word, I again wanted to find an image which wasn't generic. I believe the neon tone adds depth to the moodboard, and is a real focal point.
I really enjoyed this task and it helped to develop my Photoshop skills even further.
