Virtual Peaceful Protest - CHESTER

I have just spent the last two hours watching an extremely moving, powerful, brave and united protest / video / livestream. It took part in my nearest city, Chester - and as previously mentioned, the area around me is extremely white-washed, and Chester is especially 'monocultural' which is very uncommon of a city. Because of this I think it made the protest even more emotional as I was so shocked at the turn out!

The organisers of Chester's Black Lives Matter peaceful protest ensured a live version would be accompanied alongside the real thing, as the R rate is especially bad in the North West and North Wales right now. The idea of a Virtual Protest is amazing - it ensured I and many others could be a part of this incredible movement without pressuring people who are showing COVID symptoms, or who aren't comfortable to be in big crowds again just yet.

Two hours of brave speeches, solidarity and education. I was brought to tears on multiple occasions through the powerful and emotive speeches made. Also, hearing the horror stories of what the incredibly brave black people in my area have been through was heartbreaking. I acknowledge I will never understand how they have felt and what they have been through, and I will never stop fighting and using my white privilege to voice the truth to drive and create change for our future generations.

The protest was organised via Facebook within a few days notice, and they also created an Instagram page too to help spread the word. The livestream took place on Instagram, but I hope next time there is a Facebook Live too since many older people don't have instagram, and I believe they are the people who need to listen and try to understand what they have let slide their whole lives...
